Actually, Wolverine &lt;i&gt;is&lt;/i&gt; a mutant, a point that was fleshed out in the second X-Men movie.  His mutant power is rapid regeneration, which is what allowed him to survive the &quot;hideous military experiment&quot; to graft super-steel beneath his skin.
